Wolfdene Community Ambassador Morgan Mitchell and her team leave Rio on a high after coming eighth in the world in the 4 x 400 m women’s final.
It was the talented 21 year-old’s first Olympic games and despite a magnificent effort in making the semi-finals of the 400m individual event, Mitchell was determined to go one better in the team event.
“I had to redeem myself, I guess. I had a few dark days after the semis so I thought ‘let’s just get back into the groove of things and make that final’. We did that so I’m really happy,” Mitchell said.
In preparing for the heat, Mitchell displayed many of the traits Wolfdene promote throughout their community programs, such as resilience and emotional wellbeing, and the sensational result propelled the team into a highly competitive final. It was the first time Australia had made the 4 x 400m final since 2000. With a young and rising group, there’s plenty to look forward to in Tokyo in four year’s time.
A City of Wyndham resident, Mitchell was named as an Ambassador for Wolfdene’s Community program earlier in the year, and will visit several schools over the coming months to promote health, wellbeing and resilience.
“We are so proud of the strength and determination Mitchell showed throughout her time at Rio. She is an extremely talented athlete and we are thrilled to have her on board with our Community programs,” Wolfdene Director Jon Atchison said.
